Short description

Dawnsweeper is an infinite Minesweeper where the Creep crawls back over every edge you leave open, and settlers build villages on the ground you hold. You never command them. Every flag you plant and every number you satisfy is a wall between their homes and the Creep.

Long description

Dawnsweeper starts as Minesweeper: honest number clues, reveal, flag and chord, a 15 by 15 home square ringed by a fort of mines you can solve by deduction alone. Then the board keeps going, and it pushes back. Every few minutes the Tide comes, and the Creep takes one layer of ground from every edge you left unsealed. A number with all its mines flagged turns green, and the Creep can’t cross it. Left alone, the Creep darkens through five levels, sends out monsters and wakes Nests.

Behind your wall, settlers arrive. Each has a name, a family, a trade and a nature. They build halls, farms and workshops, dig up the mines you flagged to make room, marry, adopt, quarrel, keep four festivals a year, and belong to five peoples, Humans, Elves, Orcs, Dwarves and desert Humans, who trade with each other. You can read any settler’s card and any village’s history, but you can’t give an order. The only way to help is to keep sweeping.

The game’s one rule of tone: only the Creep and its monsters kill. Hunger and poverty bring hardship and people leaving, never death, and old Creep near a village is something you see coming in time to act.

A tester’s 24-hour world once grew 47 villages and 1,322 people, too many to care about. The game now keeps a long world to at most eight villages that grow into towns, so the ones you have are ones you know.

Free on the App Store and Google Play, with no ads. Peaceful mode, which freezes the Creep, is a single $1.99 purchase.
